let's get to know about what is sociolinguistics

   hello everyone, long time no see! How are you?  I hope all of you are always healthy. By the way it's been a long time since I last wrote my blog, it feels like it's been around a few months ago and now I'm back again to write a little knowledge which I hope will be of use to everyone who reads my blog. This time I will discuss  things that very related to learn english, especially in the field of linguistics. To be precise I will explain about  «SOCIOLINGUISTICS».

So, what is Sociolinguistics?

  Sociolingusitics is a word that is basically created from two worlds, namely "Socio" and "Lingustics".  Because of the term, sociolinguistics is derived into two words, namely, sociology and linguistics.

  Sociology is the study of social or relations between individuals and individuals, individuals and groups, and groups in society.  Meanwhile, linguistics is the study of language.  There is a relationship between these two disciplines and the sociolinguistics of creation.  And from the above statement it can be concluded that Sociolinguistics is a combination of the disciplines of sociology and linguistics where this study studies the use of language that is implemented in the social life of society.  Latifah, Saddhono, Wardhani (2017) consider Sociolinguistics to be the relationship between social factors and language variation (Latifah, Saddhono, Wardhani, 2017).

  There are many definitions of sociolinguistics, one of which is based on a statement from Aslinda and Shafie (2015) quoted by Latifah, Saddhono, Wardhani (2017), they think that Sociolinguistics is a field of study that studies the language of society (Latifah).  , Saddhono, Wardhani, 2017).

  Sociolinguistics not only studies how language is used in social life as a means of communication, but is also used as a liaison between one society and another by paying attention to social structures and aspects of social behavior.  Sociolinguistics not only discusses the use of language as a means of communication interaction, but also introduces diversity and culture in society itself.  According to Özşen, T. & Özbek, A. (2016), they consider that sociolinguistics does not only study socioculturalism, but also studies various practical topics such as social manners and others (Özşen, T. & Özbek, A., 2016)   Therefore Sociolinguistics studies various kinds of knowledge, not only the use of language as a means of communication in society, but also as a means of introducing local customs and culture in a social domain. and there are still some other meanings that I got from the sources that I made the reference reference which I put below (if you intend to find out more).

But, in its application Sociolinguistics assumes;

  1. Each language has its own variations.

  2. Each dialect also varies.

  3. Human speech also varies depending on who he is talking to.

  4. Language is closely related to social systems and social structures.

  5. Language is a system that cannot be separated from the characteristics of the speakers and the socio-cultural values applied by the speakers.
